Bülend Özden

Bülend Özden was born in Istanbul in 1971. He graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Marmara University, in 1993. Between 1996 and 2000, he worked as a designer at the Florence-based architectural office of Claudio Nardi in Italy. In 2001, he founded his own company, Bülend Özden Design Art. Today, he continues his career both nationally and internationally, working across sculpture, painting, digital art, interior architecture, and furniture design.

His artistic practice consists of abstract works that reinterpret the traditional representation of human anatomy through a deconstructivist approach. By disrupting the integrity of the outer surface, his works reveal the internal structure of form, exposing its layers and unexpected voids. Rather than presenting a conventional portrait, these sculptures invite viewers to explore the intricate architecture of the mind and the inner spaces of identity. The tension between the visible and the concealed, the solid and the void, the organic and the geometric forms the essential dynamic of his work. His sculptures also examine the journey of art from the virtual design stage to physical realization, questioning the aesthetic impact of this transformation. The digital sensibility embedded in the creative process merges with the materials of the physical world, giving rise to a distinctive formal language.
