Biography

Artur Eranosian was born in 1989 in Yerevan, Armenia. He studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Ghent, embarking on his professional journey in 2010. Initially capturing the surreal charm of Belgian towns and their inhabitants, Eranosian quickly earned international recognition, securing numerous accolades in prestigious photography competitions. A transformative encounter with the work of Raoul De Keyser led Eranosian to pivot from street photography towards abstraction. Inspired profoundly by masters such as Piet Mondrian, Barnett Newman, and Kazimir Malevich, he began photographing cityscapes through an abstract lens, resulting in works that strikingly resembled paintings. This pivotal evolution naturally transitioned into his debut artistic exhibitions in 2016, blurring the boundaries between photography and painting. Since 2020, Eranosian has immersed himself fully into painting, creating pristine oil compositions that reflect his photographic precision and painterly sensitivity. Self-taught and continually exploring new artistic territories, his practice is characterized by meticulous layering and vibrant color work, rendered through the historical medium of linseed oil and turpentine methods famously pioneered by Jan van Eyck centuries earlier. Notably, Eranosian integrates the frame as an essential compositional element rather than merely protective support, further emphasizing his holistic view of the artwork as an integrated visual experience. His recent exhibitions include “Human/Nature” (2024, Kasteeldomein De Cellen, Bruges), “Omgeving Celbeton” (2023, curated by Simon Delobel, Studio Dendermonde), “Gamechangers & Eyeopeners” (2022, Museum van Deinze en de Leiestreek), and his celebrated solo exhibition “A New Language” (2018, Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp). Eranosian currently lives and works in Belgium, with his works held in significant private and museum collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp.
